My name is Tami and my husband is Michael. We have been trying to have a baby for the past 8 years. Michael is a retired Army Veteran and I’m a registered nurse. We both love children and animals. I’ve wanted children ever since I have been little and hoping for a big family.
A little bit about our infertility journey. We were not able to conceive a baby for several years and so we sought fertility assistance. We were told we had unexplained infertility and that we would need IVF. We attempted our first time at IVF and I explained to them my cycles were longer and was in a lot of pain during the ovary stimulation process. Unfortunately, I had several eggs, but they were immature and the two that were mature did not fertilize. Not only were we devastated, but I ended up with a rare complication of hyper stimulation syndrome. I ended up in the hospital for a night due to the complications.
We knew we would need to do IVF again, but I searched for another provider as I felt something was not accounted for.
I found another infertility provider out of state and they do mini-IVF where you have to go through more rounds, but you get higher quality eggs and no hyper stimulation. After the initial evaluation I was told I have Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). They said it is where you are born with too many eggs and that causes my pituitary (hormone center in the brain) to not produce the hormones needed to create a mature egg that could be fertilized. Therefore, we need IVF so they can stimulate my hormones accordingly to produce the mature eggs so that they can be fertilized in the lab.
We did not find assistance for the first IVF that we did and are seeking assistance as we can’t financially afford the $40,000 it will cost to do the IVF cycles and embryo transfer to me to try and have a family.
I am nearing the age I will not be able to successfully have children so hoping to have IVF soon so that I will have embryos to have children over the next few years.
